Gully Guard Model

Design, CAD, and fabrication of a point of sale demonstration model

Gully Guard is an innovative drainage solution that fits inside drain gullies that uses a mesh filter to trap debris, silt, litter, and chemical contaminants from surface runoff while allowing water to pass through.

Forrest Group needed a way to showcase the product, its benefits, and demonstrate how Gully Guard works.

Phoenix Consultants worked with Forrest Group to concept, design develop, and fabricate a one-off point-of-sale model to show case the product in situ.

The Process

Design

Initial concepts formed a section-view cutaway model that shows the Gully Guard in a drain with surrounding environment that visualises the product once it is under ground level; something that is not normally possible to see. A 3D CAD model is created to validate the design.

Virtual Prototype

The 3D CAD model is used to create mock-up 3d cad renders that visualise how the model might look with colours and textures before committing to physical prototyping and model production.

Production Model

The final model is fabricated in-house using a combination of traditional modelmaking and high tech rapid prototyping equipment. The final design simplified the surrounding environment to focus on the Gully Guard and the product information decals that surround it while maintaining the in situ effect.
