How we 3d Printed a Giant TEDx Stage Sign
TEDx Eastgate Street 3D Printed Stage Sign
TEDx is coming to Gloucester!
On the 20th September 2026, Gloucester welcomes its first ever official TEDx event to be hosted in the Gloucester Guildhall delivering talks, performances, and shared conversation; exploring how creativity, leadership, and human connection merge.
As part of delivering these TEDx talks, various materials are needed for the event to be a success including a large TEDx stage sign and Phoenix Consultants were commissioned to produce this using their design expertise and 3d printing capabilities.

Each of the large TEDx letters were 3d printed individually utilising the OrangeStorm Giga 3d printer, the largest available in Phoenix Consultants’ in-house prototyping and modelmaking facilities.

Alongside the large, red TEDx letters, the stage sign also needed smaller letters in white showcasing the specific TEDx event: Eastgate Street. Following the official brand and font guidelines for TEDx, a system was designed for these smaller letters to be raised up on discreet black platforms that would blend into the stage and backdrop. This means the top of the letters aligned with the top of the letter “x” and created space underneath for letters with descenders that extend below the baseline.

The full “TEDx Eastgate Street” stage sign was first created to 1:1 scale in 3D CAD (computer aided design) to ensure accuracy to the TEDx font guidelines and ensure size, spacing, and alignment was all correct. This 3d model is then split into individual letter files to be prepared for 3d printing and fabrication.

Measuring 6.3 metres long and 795mm tall, the stage sign is completed in advance for TEDx Eastgate Street and ready for the event. Stay tuned for photos from the event on the 20th September 2026 to see how the sign looks on stage in the Gloucester Guildhall.
